We announced Premier Sport’s £50,000 Match-Funding pledge in November to get the nations primary school children fit and active using The Golden Mile. Since then, we’ve received a huge number of schools applying for the funding across the country. The Match-Funding pledge is part of Premier Sport’s long term community investment strategy which they hope can impact of the health & wellbeing of young people in the UK.

The application process for this funding pot will be available until 5pm this Friday 19th December only. Applicants are encouraged to apply at the earliest opportunity to avoid disappointment. The application process will remain open until then or as soon as the funding has been allocated.

Calls for schools to promote “low-level” activity

Schools should “redefine” physical activity, focussing on low-level effort rather than strenuous exercise, says a leading sports medicine consultant.

Dr Mike Loosemore argues cramming “heavy exercise” into a crowded school curriculum does not work.

He says getting children to stand up and move around more could have an extraordinary impact on their health.
