The number of children classed as overweight or obese surges by 40 per cent in the last four years of primary school, a major study has found.

New analysis of findings from a study charting the lifestyles of more than 13,000 British children has pinpointed a window between the ages of seven and 11 when the incidence of weight problems dramatically increases.

Suffolk children set for gold with nationwide fitness initiative

170 children from Grundisburgh Primary School in Suffolk have taken their first golden steps within the safety of their own school grounds after launching a successful national physical activity initiative called The Golden Mile.

To promote the benefits of regular physical activity and in conjunction with Premier Sport, the school has set the children a challenge for every child to walk, jog or run the two laps daily to ensure every pupil completes 50 miles of physical activity over the school year.
