To [%parent_firstname%] and [%child_firstname%],

Following on from last week’s e mail talking about being an excellent role model for children, we wanted to focus on Eating Well this week. It’s a fact that your child cannot perform at their best unless their body is fuelled effectively. Part of being an excellent role model includes the food choices that we make for both ourselves and our children.

Check out the below stats for the frightening realisation:

  • Latest figures (Oct 16) show obesity prevalence is more than twice as high in year 6 compared with reception.
  • 9.3% of four- and five-year-olds in primary reception class in England in 2015-16 were classed as obese, up from 9.1% the previous year. The number of obese 10 and 11year olds also rose from 19.1% to 19.8% last year.

We therefore all have a responsibility to educate and encourage children to make healthy decisions and by making these ourselves we are being excellent role models. Everyone loves a treat but these need moderating. Eating a healthy balanced diet is essential for your child’s growth and development, whether or not they are an athlete.

  • Empower your children to want to make healthy choices for themselves.
  • Encourage them to make healthy changes and discuss with them why it matters.

Check out the below website with your child and use some of the ideas to discuss their food choices around:

See you next week.
