Welcome to our latest morethansport newsletter. Is it really nearly February already! Hands up to those of you still committed to your New Year resolutions or just having a dry January.
When starting a new business one of the biggest perceived challenges is having the ability to engage with enough potential clients in a reasonable timescale, providing you with the opportunity to forge relationships and embark on building your business.
I am delighted to introduce you to Karl Fox who heads up The Golden Mile. In the video interview Karl will give you an insight into how The Golden Mile gives you access to not just one school but multiple schools providing an innovative and unique solution to how engage with schools. Access is the key word and it’s no surprise that our franchisees are benefiting from this unique proposition.

A lesson in ‘Inspire to Compete’ resulting in £1000s of potential new business...
|
Earlier this month, Duncan Donnelly held his first ‘Inspire to Compete’ basketball competition in conjunction with the Outer West Learning Trust in Newcastle. The event was organised by Premier Sport’s local Competitions Coordinator, Darryll Donnelly.
Each school entered the competition with a basketball team which was supported by a media team. The work of the media was vital with each school being able to document their journey from their basketball after school clubs to the actual competition day itself. During the competition, the media teams interviewed their own players and staff as well as players and staff from other schools.

GM Monitor Training, part 1 - Intro & understanding the benefits of physical activity
|
This week sees the launch of part one of the Golden Mile ‘Monitor Training’ resource that provides licensees with video of a live training session delivered by GM Director, Karl Fox. This particular process is integral to the success, longevity and reducing the time management of GM within your schools.
|
This new training video is split into four parts for ease of use and designed to support your delivery within schools and clusters. Part one sees Karl introducing the initiative to the elected Monitors and explaining the benefits of regular physical activity.
We’ll release the other three parts over the coming weeks. If you can’t wait, we’ve already uploaded these to our YouTube channel.

Is your local police force investing in the community? Franchise scoops £1,998 for holiday provision...
|
Paul Baker from the Wigan and Leigh territory attended a ‘Participatory Budget’ event last Saturday at Higher Fold community Centre and scooped £1,998 for one of his schools.
The event was run by the local police force and it was a ‘Participatory Budget’ event in which the police have invested £20,000 into the local community. They invited organisations to bid for a share of the money with a maximum of £2,000 per bid.
Paul commented:
|
“We partnered up with one of our schools to bid for £1,998.00 to run two weeks of holiday courses. We had a three minute slot to pitch our idea to the community and they then vote for which project they want to receive the money. I led the pitch with two year six pupils from the school. Our bid was successful and we’ve received the full £1,998.00 pounds for our summer holiday programme.“
Paul would urge other franchisees to research these events and partner up with their schools to bid for funds.

Last week was significant for the physical activity sector, as Labour coincidentally launched its Public Health Policy proposals on the same day a new study from Cambridge University warning of the dangers of inactivity was published.
We would encourage you read the analysis of both reports below, and also to take some time to explore each of them in detail; the links can also be found below.
