Introducing...

Andrew Overhill

Andrew lives in Somerset in a small village near Taunton. He is married to Michelle and has a son Jack who is 18 years old.

Andrew who operates in the Taunton territory is attracted to Premier Sport as it meets his criteria for a new business opportunity. He is a family man, who sought a proposition that he could believe in and has a strong ethical element. There is no doubting Andrew's entrepreneurial drive as he has enjoyed a successful career in the hospitality industry over the last 20 years. Andrew was instrumental in the growth and sale of a small hotel and then a large coastal pub. Andrew's practical experience of dealing with a wide range of people will be invaluable. The operational side of the business including the financials will enable him to embrace the Premier Sport opportunity. Andrew believes in leadership by example therefore he has just completed his induction course which included three weeks of practical activity modules and qualifications.

Armed with this knowledge Andrew is looking forward to building a coaching team around him allowing him to focus on building the business by engaging with Head Teachers in his area. It is worth adding that Andrew was so committed to launching his Premier Sport franchise that he attended the induction course knowing that the first day of the course coincided with his silver wedding anniversary!

Andrew's passion is Rugby where he used to play competitively along with cricket.

We have no doubt Andrew will be a success in Somerset the main challenge will be actually getting to the schools given the current flood levels! Welcome onboard Andrew and we wish you every success.

Read Compass’ responses to funding announcement & new DfE policy

Last week the updated DfE ‘Behaviour and Discipline in Schools’ policy was released, and highlighted a point that bad behaviour should be met with extra physical activity, namely running. This policy was closely followed by news that Prime Minister David Cameron had pledged an additional £150m per annum until 2020 for primary school sport in England.

Read Compass' press releases on our response to the  DfE policy and the additional funding.

Compass to question parents and teachers

We'll be working with an independent research company to produce a survey that will provide evidence that demonstrates the need for external sports providers in schools, and the quality of the provision currently provided.

Targeting teachers, parents and also children, we hope to establish the volume of schools using external providers, the quality experienced by the schools, what parents and children want from their PE lessons, and who they are taught by. All these findings will be published once the survey is complete. Look out for more updates coming soon.
