Olympic gold medallist urges more competitive sport in schools

Olympic gold medallist Duncan Goodhew MBE urged primary schools across the UK to encourage more competitive school sport at a football and basketball tournament in Maidstone on Tuesday 24th March 2015 which was hotly contested by 60 children from eight primary schools.

Duncan commented: I’m encouraged that the Premier Sport team are working in partnership with all these schools, to support the non sporty children as well as creating future Olympic stars through competitive sport. This wouldn’t have been possible without sporting programmes like ‘Inspire to Engage’ which is part of Premier Sport’s brilliant Inspire Programme.”

Head teacher, Wendy Skinner from Brunswick House Primary School commented:

“Premier Sport has provided an excellent opportunity for local schools to showcase and celebrate their pupils’ sporting talents and we were extremely keen to be part of this event.”

Your free step-by-step guide for Primary PE and Sport Premium

Welcome to the Coaching in Primary Schools Portal, developed by sports coach UK in collaboration with their national partners, including COMPASS.

Through the Primary PE and Sport Premium, our partner schools now have additional funding to enhance their PE and school sport offer to your children. The feedback is that you’ve identified a role for sports coaching through this additional funding. Activity Professionals (coaches) can perform a valuable role in supporting and up-skilling your teachers to improve the delivery of physical education in your school as well as providing breakfast, lunchtime and after school clubs.

As a founding member of COMPASS, we would strongly urge our partner schools to use this step-by-step information to ensure that the use of Activity Professionals (coaches) through the Premium is both effective and sustainable.
