Welcome to the Autumn term...

I hope the start of your new year is going fantastically. It’s been a record-breaking summer of Olympic action, and for Premier Education an amazing summer giving more children more opportunities to experience more sports - including disadvantaged children via Pupil Premium (find more below), of which I am really proud. We’re now well into the new term supporting schools with Curriculum PE, dance and drama, and out-of-school-hours activities.

Following hot on the heels of Rio’s inspiring Olympics, read on for your chance to WIN an enhanced Road From Rio experience for your school.

In the news, the recent doubling of the School PE and Sport Premium – fantastic for our children – will pose some challenges for schools looking to spend efficiently and ensure the outcome is measurable for Ofsted, please see more below.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me or my husband Stuart to discuss how we can help impact the lives of your children.

Yours Sincerely,
Liz Bartles-Smith

Win a Road From Rio experience for your school

Four years ago, my husband - then Captain Bartles-Smith - and I were making plans for the end of his military career after his final deployment in Afghanistan. London 2012 inspired us to include sport in those plans and be part of the legacy of the games. Uniting sport with our desire to positively impact on the lives of children, and to work with the leading company in its field, we began our work with Premier Education Group.

Four years on, after this fantastic Olympics and Paralympics in Rio we want to continue that legacy today - to give more children more opportunities to experience more sports. With the Road From Rio enrichment programme children experience Olympic sports they may never have had the opportunity to take part in before – perhaps Fencing, Boccia or Archery. This programme aims to inspire the whole school community to celebrate, participate and link the associated sporting values with the values, work and ethos of your school, and build on the excitement created by the Olympics.

To find out how to get the Road From Rio FREE for your school contact us with the subject line Road From Rio. All schools who have booked their enrichment programme before half term (programme can begin after half term) will be entered into our competition to WIN an Enhanced Road from Rio package. Good luck.

Engaging disadvantaged children throughout the holidays

During the summer we continued to work hard to make holiday camps accessible to children of all backgrounds and needs – whether that be children from Service families, with the Hampshire County Council Short Breaks scheme to ensure that our holiday camps are inclusive for children with additional needs, or children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

This summer our partner schools continued to fund places for disadvantaged children using the Pupil Premium on Ofsted registered Premier Sport and Premier Performing Arts camps.

The impact on these children – some extending over the last 3 years – has been fantastic; enabling experiences which many may otherwise not get, and providing an opportunity for positive engagement during the holiday periods.

These places are offered to schools at a discounted rate, if you would like to find out more please do get in touch. Our next holiday camps will be in October half term, and then each holiday.

Exciting Times Ahead For Our Sector

It’s exciting times ahead for our sector as we’re sure you’re well aware. The soft drinks levy across the UK will provide funding to reduce obesity and encourage physical activity, which in turn will double the PE & Sport Premium for schools, with an extra £10 million being added every year for healthy school breakfast clubs!

But what does this mean?

  • The UK Chief Medical Officers’ recommend that all children take part in moderate or vigorous activity for at least 60 minutes per day
  • 30 minutes of this should be through the school; PE, Extra-Curricular Clubs and lunch time activities etc.
  • 30 minutes of this should be through parents and outside of school
  • Ofsted will be assessing how schools are using the premium and will be measuring the health impacts on children

So how does your school fare already? Are you thinking about how to meet these demands?

If you would like to chat about how your school is already meeting physical activity standards or would like to know how to improve them with the funding available, contact us using this link, we’d be happy to help!
