NEW VLOG Work Smarter Not Harder with these simple behaviour management techniques...

One of the biggest challenges you and Activity Professionals face when delivering is undoubtedly behaviour management and control of children.

Behaviour management is a constant challenge during curricular/extracurricular sessions and a vital skill that all deliverers need to develop. In this new vlog, Andy discusses and shares simple and effective strategies to improve behaviour thus ensuring Activity Professionals are having the maximum impact on all children.

Supporting resources...

We have a number of resources available to support you, such as our FUN agreement, the new British Values poster and our 10 tips for behaviour management.

Live webinar...

Andy will be following up this Vlog with a LIVE webinar called ‘Behaviour Management Strategies and Ideas’ from 5-6pm next Wednesday 19th October.

With only limited spaces available, we recommend you and your Activity Professionals register your place now.

New Email Platform

You will be pleased to know that we are currently developing the BMS to allow additional functionality for the network to communicate more effectively with their stakeholders. This includes developments with the email system that we use and how it is integrated into the BMS. To make sure we get it right first time, we’d appreciate feedback on your needs so these can be incorporated into the development. Our current supplier agreement is up in December so any developments will be completed by then.

If you can send your suggestions to [email protected] by the 21st October, we will make sure all suggestions are considered.

Add value to your schools...

As you will be aware, British Values are a big deal in Primary Schools up and down the country, with lots of display boards around schools and here’s why.

Here’s a gift for you to add value to your schools as well as showing you’re up to speed with the curriculum and OFSTED requirements.

The new RESPECT acronym has many benefits; It can be used by Activity Professionals as a behaviour management tool just like the FUN agreement for sport active clubs and competitions.

Simply download, print both sides and laminate a copy for every staff member. This can be used as a rules and competition ‘agreement’ by children. it will also help children understand why they are competing, along with the privileges and responsibilities.

IMPORTANT REMINDER Know your Ratios

It is important to ensure that when planning and delivering all activities, consideration is given to providing an appropriate supervision ratio of adults to participants.

This is a friendly reminder to ensure that all Activity Professionals are following the correct ratios whilst delivering courses.

Curricular – One Activity Professional per class (approx 25-30 children).

Extra-Curricular – 1: 20 - some exceptions apply, for insurances reasons some sports are restricted to less participants.

Holiday Provision – 1: 16 with a minimum of two members of staff at any one time throughout the day.

1:1 ratios - Under no circumstances should any Activity Professional be put or left in a 1:1 situation with a child in a room with a closed door. If there is one child for whatever reason i.e. last one to get changed then you should always ensure that the door to the room is wide open. If it is safe to do so i.e. you are within close enough proximity and you can see the child, you should try to position yourself in the doorway, so that you can be seen.

This information can also be found in your Activity Professional Manual.

For any questions of concerns please contact our Skills and Compliance Team on 01953 499 040 or [email protected]

What makes a sales campaign succeed or fail?

Sales Sensei Glenn Hoy from Time Associates answers a very crucial question about sales that is raised frequently.

“What makes a sales campaign succeed or fail? You would expect there are a variety of factors such as communications channel(s), design, content, call to action and the overall ‘message’.” Glenn comments.

“However, as important as they all are the one thing that stands out time and time again is the actual offer. Accepting that the recipient of your communications is initially interested in one thing, ‘what’s in it for me’, and then, how easy is it for them to understand and how they can access/use.”
