Keeping children safe in education – new statutory guidance for schools

This new guidance released by the government advises schools to ensure that all adults working in education should have an annual review on safeguarding.

With that in mind, it’s critical that you read and ensure you understand section one of the document. Please take some time to watch Andy Heald’s video explaining the guidance.

Even though our Minimum Operation Standards state that safeguarding updates is every 3 years, we do recommend that you seek annual safeguarding updates.

Have you read the new Childhood Obesity Strategy?

As a first major step towards tackling childhood obesity, the government will be introducing a soft drinks industry levy across the UK. In England, the revenue from the levy will be invested in programmes to reduce obesity and encourage physical activity and balanced diets for school age children.

This includes doubling the Primary PE and Sport Premium and putting a further £10 million a year into school healthy breakfast clubs to give more children a healthier start to their day.

We’ve extracted the key points for you below. You can also view the full Government document here.

Premier Apprentice Video Diary #1

We are excited to share with you the first video diary entries from the two apprentices we are following along their Premier journeys.

Premier Sport apprentice Lee Baldwin and Premier Performing Arts apprentice Joanna Hunt have submitted their videos, detailing the courses they are enrolled on, what they have enjoyed, the challenges they have encountered, and advice for other new Premier apprentices. Take a look at their videos – we think they give a great insight into what life is like as a Premier apprentice, and are great examples of what it takes to join our positive and passionate team. Stay tuned for their second video diary entries!

Traineeship provides perfecting stepping stone in to an Apprenticeship...

Onur Kent begins his apprenticeship as an Activity Professional this month with Premier Sport (Hackney) after a successful 3 month Traineeship in the territory. After completing two interviews in March, Onur was offered the chance to shadow and work with other Activity Professionals with the prospect of an apprenticeship, if successful. Franchisee Michael Johnson said:

“Throughout his Traineeship, Onur was able to experience lunchtime sessions and after school clubs, as well as curricular cover - this gave him an opportunity to look at us, and for us to see him in action. He acquitted himself very well and as a result of the feedback that I received about him, I was happy to offer him a post in September. Onur will now undertake the necessary training via CSL and it is my hope that he will fulfil the potential that he has already shown”.
